According to a survey commissioned by Best Friends Animal Society, 84 percent of Americans believe citizens should be allowed to have any breed of dog they choose.

Dogs are individuals, with individual temperaments and behaviors that are not based on what they look like. Dog breed-specific legislation is wrong, and breed ban laws do not keep the public safer.

In fact, legislation that targets dogs by breed has been proven to be ineffective when it comes to reducing dog-bite incidents. Breed-specific legislation also infringes on people’s basic rights and is expensive to enforce.
